Job Description
The Sybase Database Admin will be responsible for managing day to day operations
- Extensive knowledge of Sybase 16.X (both Linux and Windows)
- Extensive knowledge of Sybase replication Server (version 16.x)
- Excellent knowledge of implementing and configuring Sybase on: (in decreasing order of importance)
- Linux Servers (Red Hat
- Windows 2003/2008/201
- Virtual environments (VMWare, LPARs,
- Proficient in both OLTP configurations (ERP systems), and in OLAP (Data warehousing)
- Good understanding of performance optimization (both on the storage level, as on the logical tuning level)
- Knowledge of configuring and using MDA views (Monitoring and Data Analytics)
- Configure and use Sybase Backup Server
- Ability to script is essential (multiple languages such as shell script, PowerShell/CLI or VB)
Business Analysis:
- Understand existing client environment completely
- Analyze current business requirements
- Identify new areas on an ongoing basis and suggest accordingly
- Database design concepts
Operational:
- Troubleshoot problems associated with database
- Take ownership and responsibility of queries, issues and problems assigned to the database
- Works with vendor support contacts to resolve technical issues
- Dealing with queries by following SOPs for fault resolution
- Maintains IT records and tracking hardware and software inventory for areas of responsibility
- Develop sound understanding of IT operations and IT systems as well as business related processes and procedures
- Maintain adequate knowledge of all network and firewall devices used to provide a high level of support
- Maintains and consistently demonstrates a general knowledge of company guidelines, processes, practices and procedures
